How to use the Signal for Help
Sometimes it may not be safe or possible to ask for help out loud. The Signal for Help is a one-handed gesture designed to communicate that someone may want another person to check in with them safely. It is not a universal emergency signal, and seeing it does not automatically mean you should call police. If you notice the gesture, try to create a safe opportunity to check in and let the person guide what happens next.
How to make the Signal for Help: hold up one hand with your palm facing outward, tuck your thumb into your palm, then fold your fingers down over your thumb.
