For Potential Offenders
Welcome
If your own sexual thoughts trouble you — or if someone else has told you they should — this page is for you.
Perhaps they’re thoughts or images about sexual contact with a child. Perhaps they involve force, coercion, or violence — toward a child, or toward an adult. Perhaps your body produces arousal you never asked for and can’t switch off. Or perhaps sex has taken over more of your life than you want it to, and you think of yourself as a sex addict.
These thoughts can feel alien and intrusive. They arrive without permission, they don’t leave when you tell them to, and what frightens you most may be not understanding why you think and feel this way.
They rarely arrive alone. They tend to bring shame with them, and a quiet sense of not deserving to feel whole, and a pull to keep some distance from the people around you.
Holding a secret like this can be very hard, affecting how you feel about yourself, sabotaging how you wish you could show up in life, hurting relationships you care about. You may have been living this way for years, with no one to tell.
There may also be moments when your mind starts making excuses to justify acting on these thoughts. That it wouldn’t really hurt anyone. That fantasies are harmless. That they wanted it. That they wouldn’t remember. Your mind may also tell you that you can get away with it. And you might. But you won’t get away from it. You would carry it into every room, every relationship, every quiet moment for the rest of your life — and so would the person you hurt.
Pay attention when the excuses start. That is the point where this gets dangerous. It is also the point where one phone call can stop everything that would have come next.
If your mind has been doing this, call today.
You may also be reading this unsure whether you want anything to change. You can still reach out. Nobody will ask you to be certain before they’ll talk to you.
But whatever is in your head, it isn’t who you are. Your thoughts don’t define you. You’re the one who decides what happens next.
So thank you for being here. We mean that. It can’t be easy to live with any of this, and it can’t have been easy to come looking for help.
Every organization on this page exists for exactly this. Their staff do this work every day, and they do it without judgment. All of it is free. The helplines are anonymous — you’re not asked for your name, and several don’t record your number. Therapy works differently: it’s confidential, and the therapist will know who you are.
Take what you need — one number, one website, one conversation. If all you can do today is read this, we’re glad you’re here. With the right support, people who live with this can stop being ruled by it. That can be you.
